I chose to incorporate two news gadgets at the bottom of my blog. I feel that as a teacher, I should not be constricted to having to talk about the past all the time. On occasion current issues and events should be discussed in class, and here is a perfect way to find them. I added a Digg and CNN gadget, students can find top news stories in a number of categories and discuss them either on the blog or later in class.
Activity 9
This video is relevant to education to education as it brings up very important ideas on how new generations see the world. He compared the word of today to the world of "Brave New World" as we have entertained ourselves into redundancy. Things just don't interest people the way they did in the past. Knowledge is no longer something to strive for but can be found at the click of a button. The question comes down to how do we create a healthy learning environment that will interest the students.
The term recognition is very important to the modern world. He compared photos of his class room to that of an American Idol audition. He showed that the people in the audition were ecstatic at the chance to be famous and have recognition for what they do. The class room did not provide that. People weren't interested in what couldn't significantly benefit them. This is important to education as we need to give students the recognition they crave in order to get them to take education seriously.
